AREA 1: Embodying sustainability values
GATE for School Managers
Self assessment focused on knowledge , skills and attitudes
AREA I:
Embodying sustainability values
Embodying sustainability values means integrating sustainability principles into everyday decisions and actions at individual, classroom, and organisational levels. It emphasises ethical reasoning, equity and justice across generations, and respect for nature’s intrinsic value—recognising humans as part of nature.
This approach encourages learners to:
1. Reflect on and align values with sustainability
Understand how value orientations shape choices.
2. Support fairness for present and future generations
Consider social, cultural and environmental dimensions.
3. Respect and regenerate nature
Strengthen connectedness with living systems and care for more-than-human life.
Competences of the Area:
To reflect on personal values; identify and explain how values vary among people and over time, while critically evaluating how they align with sustainability values.
To support equity and justice for current and future generations and learn from previous generations for sustainability.
To acknowledge that humans are part of nature; and to respect the needs and rights of other species and of nature itself in order to restore and regenerate healthy and resilient ecosystems.
