Self-Assessment

Tool on GreenComp!

Thank you for taking a moment to think about sustainability. By opening this tool, you are already taking an important step. You are choosing to reflect on how your knowledge, your actions, and your choices affect the world around you.

This self-assessment is based on GreenComp, the European Sustainability Competence Framework. GreenComp is organised into four connected areas of sustainability. Each competence includes three important elements:

Knowledge

What you understand

Skills

What you are able to do

Attituides_icon

Attitudes

The values and beliefs that guide your decisions

These elements work together. Real change toward sustainability happens when what we know, what we can do, and what we care about are connected in everyday lifeat school, at work, and in the expectations, we place on policymakers and companies.

In this tool, you will be placed at different proficiency levels (such as basic, advanced, or expert) based on your answers. These levels are not grades or labels. They simply describe stages of development to help you understand where you are and how you can grow.

Important to know

This is a reflection tool, not an exam.
It is not a full evaluation of your school or your sustainability performance.

There are no right or wrong answers.
The goal is to encourage honest reflection, open thinking, and positive development.

Before you begin

To get the most out of this questionnaire, you should already know something about the GreenComp framework.

  • If you are a student, you should complete this self-assessment after learning about GreenComp in class.
  • If you are a teacher or school manager and are not yet familiar with GreenComp, please take some time to explore it before continuing. You can access it here.

How the tool works

The tool offers three pathways:

  • Students – learners from secondary schools
  • Teachers – educators and school staff involved in teaching and learning
  • School Managers – principals, management teams, sustainability coordinators, and others responsible for school planning

Each pathway includes four questionnaires, one for each GreenComp competence area. Each questionnaire contains 15 questions.

To make the competences easier to understand, practical examples are included. After each questionnaire, you will receive personalised feedback and practical suggestions to help you recognise your strengths and think about your next steps.
